The Bluegrass Angels (BGA) seeks to encourage the development of start-up companies and to support new businesses in the region by providing the region's entrepreneurs with seed capital and management guidance from experienced industry and entrepreneurial veterans. An important, although not exclusive, focus of the BGA is to develop start-up companies through the commercialization of the on-going research of the University of Kentucky.

Over the past several years, the number and types of organized business angel groups has grown, and the business models for the groups continue to evolve.

Angel investing has long been an important source of financial support and mentoring for new and growing businesses, bridging a gap between individual and institutional venture capital rounds of financing or being the only source of external financing.

Individual company investments will normally be in the range of @25,000 to $500,000.
